Fulwell 73 Announce Development of ‘Ibiza87’ with Sony Pictures International

Major New TV Drama Series Chronicles the Dance Music and Cultural Revolution That Changed The World

Irvine Welsh & Dean Cavanagh Confirmed as Writers

Attached to the Project are Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway - The Superstar DJs Who Brought Musical Revolution They Found in Ibiza to the Masses

Fulwell 73 are delighted to announce the development of Ibiza87, a major new TV drama series telling the incredible story of the birth and rise to dominance of a cultural and music revolution. Loosely based on the exploits of Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway- all of whom are attached to the project- the series chronicles the remarkable story from 1987 onwards, as a group of friends from South London went from virtual nobodies to world famous superstar DJs, introducing an unsuspecting world to acid house and balearic beats, ultimately beginning the Electronic Dance Music revolution. Like the missing link between ’24 Hour Party People’ and ‘Straight Outta Compton’, Ibiza87 chronicles the roller coaster highs and lows, the drug fuelled excess and the untold riches through to the rivalries, violence and arrests of an incredible period in British music culture. The series will be written by Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting, Filth) & Dean Cavanagh.

2017 marks the 30th anniversary of Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling and Nicky Holloway taking their first life-changing trip to Ibiza. This series is about more than just their rise and fall, it’s the story of the youth culture movement they kickstarted that swept the White Island, the UK and (along with the Chicago House scene) eventually the world, sowing the seeds for EDM’s domination of today. Ibiza87 will be soundtracked by an incredible acid house soundtrack, expertly curated and compiled by the three superstar DJ’s.

Fulwell 73 are undoubted masters in gaining unprecedented insight and access to their subjects - as seen with “I Am Bolt,” a globally released cinematic sports documentary, “Class of 92” starring David Beckham and “The Late Late Show With James Corden”. With Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway all onboard and with Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh signed up to pen the series, Ibiza87 is a tantalising proposition that will appeal across the generations, regardless of musical tastes. Fresh off the back of the triumphant Trainspotting 2, Welsh brings his intrinsic knowledge and understanding of the dance scene to the party. Dean Cavanagh, a regular collaborator with Welsh, is an award winning screenwriter and former clubland promoter, whose writing in the early 90’s for The Face, i-D and NME was a cornerstone of the burgeoning acid house scene.

Leo Pearlman (Producer, Fulwell 73) says: “This is the story of a youth culture movement that swept a nation and eventually the world, the wider cultural impact it had and the legacy it left behind. Our aim is to make anyone who lived it look back with misty eyes and anyone who missed it wish they’d been along for the ride and in Irvine and Dean we have the perfect writers on board to achieve that goal.”

Irvine Welsh (writer) says: "The house music scene and most importantly, the friendships made, the adventures had and crazy tales swapped, have been a pivotal part of our lives over the years. Those beats, pills and travels (whether to the other side of the world or across the town) shaped a generation, and the opportunity to construct a drama within this backdrop is a dream come true."

Paul Oakenfold says: "I’m very excited about this project. As you know, it ties in with the 30 year anniversary of our trip to Ibiza and what followed thereafter; the birth of the dance music club and festival scene as we know it today. It's great to celebrate with this project as well as my world tour this year which is about just that, three Generations of dance music"
